Description: Our client, a leading media organisation, currently requires a technical operation lead as part of a huge project.
The job is to lead the technical operations team that will manage the live production, development and test environments comprising servers, storage and networking infrastructure. The post holder is also responsible for organising and providing 3rd line support for in-house and third party applications. This position reports to the Technical Director of DMI.
The role requires:
§ A strong technical background with significant experience of running a modern technical operations team for a large user base.
§ Ability to manage operational activities coupled with a pragmatic approach to adopting an ITIL framework where appropriate.
§ Experience of providing helpdesk facilities and 3rd line support with a strong customer service ethic.
§ Experience of managing large scale and geographically dispersed environments with significant delivery pressures.
§ Experience of managing people and process with a can do attitude.
§ Good communicator with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation from the leadership team to developers and production users as well as external vendors.
§ Experience of managing a mix of environments including Linux, Windows Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, DB2 and Oracle.
§ Experience of managing and allocating resources in a virtualised server and storage environment using Xen and VMWare.
§ Experience of using Zenoss for monitoring; Hudson for build and Puppet for configuration.
§ Experience of using Jira and Confluence as reporting, communications and collaboration tools.
§ Experience of using SVN as a code repository.
§ Experience of implementing and managing security for networks and applications.
§ Experience of using asset tracking tools also desirable.
