The Get A-Head Charitable Trust

Mark Esom is now on both the Main Committee and the Ball Committee for the Get A-head Charitable Trust.

The ‘Get A-Head’ Charitable Trust was founded in 1994 by the late Roy Castle, Peter Scudamore, together with John Watkinson and Adrian Drake-Lee. Get A-Head’s aim is to support adults and children with head and neck diseases, but especially those with cancer and the three main funding areas are:

Equipment

Diagnosis of a patient’s complaint is the keystone to treating a condition. Accurate diagnosis and treatment is facilitated by state-of-the-art equipment.

Research

Unless we can understand how a disease works at its most basic level, it is difficult to develop new treatments. Sometimes, these developments take a long time and are expensive to set up. The Trust continues to fund research and positive outcomes are always welcome.

Education

Being able to provide clear, concise information to patients about what is happening to them is very important. Leaflets and information packs are produced for all new patients. There is a footfall in excess of 10,000 patients coming through the out-patients clinic annually. Also, being able to provide specialist training for nurses helps them to target the support and comfort to those with a serious illness.
