MAIN TASKS & REPSONSIBILITIES

NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
• Co-ordinate market and customer research into new product and new product category ideas, drawing upon support from the sales, marketing, design and technical teams as appropriate
• Be a go-to-person in the business for new product ideas, actively promote this fact, make yourself available and encourage idea generation across the business
• Keep abreast of product developments within immediate competitors and the broader smart home category. Use this knowledge to identify new product opportunities
• Use the inputs above to crystallize opportunities into project proposals to be considered for entry into the product development process. Pay close attention to cost, price and margin concerns
• For projects that merit progression, work closely to the Prince2 product development process to deliver the products in a timely, high quality and financially compelling manner. Elements of this will include:
o Always seek to capture and implement the learnings from both successful and unsuccessful projects
o Work closely with the sales, marketing, design, quality, and operations teams to make the most of available cross-functional expertise
o Always keep abreast of project status regardless who is directly responsible for the step in hand, communicate this status to the rest of the business and ensure there are never any surprises
o Ensure timelines are strictly agreed to by all stakeholders at all times and not communicated to the business until agreed
o Listen closely to the evolving needs of customers and the sales teams to ensure that projects are being treated with the right level of priority at any given time
o When products are ready to order, work with sales and supply chain to establish the most appropriate initial order quantities
o Work closely with the marketing team to deliver a fully featured launch process (data sheets, flyers, press releases, web banners etc.)
o In conjunction with the Technical team, prepare training material in relation to the new product and ensure it is delivered to all relevant parties
o When stock is available, create excitement across the business in order that the products are more likely to be talked about to customers by the sales team
o In partnership with the sales team and technical team, stay close to early adopters of new products. Gather their feedback on experiences of the product and feedback improvements to the design team for incorporation in running changes. Feedback positive comment to the sales and marketing teams to incorporate in their pitches / marketing material

PRODUCT LIFECYCE MANAGEMENT
• Conduct a ground up review of the Smart Security product portfolio, taking the opportunity to closely understand the detail and intricacies of the range
• Use this review to rationalise legacy and obsolete products, classify remaining products according to their stage in the product lifecycle and create an action plan for each
• Use these findings to build a category development strategy for the Smart Security product portfolio
• Manage all products according to the stipulations of this strategy, including:
o Pro-actively look for strategic opportunities to reduce the size of the portfolio without alienating customers. This is particularly important in the instance of new product launches replacing older products
o Categorise & bundle product ranges to optimise their saleability
o Review opportunities for VAVE on products to maximise profitability
o Re-energise products by modernising packaging
o Work closely with the sales and procurement teams to manage any product changeovers that are required to effect these changes
