Safety Case Engineer, Hampshire (Contract) £60-70/h

Role Overview: The Safety Case Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our defence and navy systems. This position requires a deep understanding of safety case development, specifically within the context of electronics and communication systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating, managing, and maintaining safety cases in line with the Project Oriented Environmental Management System (POEMS) and will ensure all activities comply with relevant standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain safety cases for electronic and communication systems, ensuring they meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead safety assessments and hazard analyses, including HAZID, HAZOP, and FMEA.
  • Prepare and present safety documentation and reports to stakeholders, including clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Conduct safety reviews and audits to ensure compliance with safety management plans and legislative requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, engineering, and project management, to integrate safety requirements into system designs and operations.
  • Ensure all safety case activities align with the POEMS framework.
  • Support the development and implementation of safety management systems and policies.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices and advancements in safety engineering and incorporate them into company processes.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior engineers on safety case development and POEMS.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Electronics, Communication Systems, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in safety engineering within the defence or navy sectors.
  • Proven experience in developing and managing safety cases.
  • In-depth knowledge of POEMS and its application in safety case development.
  • Familiarity with relevant safety standards and regulations (e.g., IEC 61508, DEF STAN 00-56, MIL-STD-882).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
  • Experience with safety assessment tools and methodologies.
  • Eligible for security clearances (Must be a UK citizen for at least the past 5 years and have no criminal record).

Desirable Skills:

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
  • Experience in the application of safety engineering principles in software and hardware development.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering and integration.
  • Experience working with governmental and military clients.
