Town Planner

Job Title: Town Planner

Our Client is looking for someone to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplined team of Surveyors, Designers and Project Support, identifying suitable deployment sites and acquiring the necessary planning approvals on behalf of the client. Liaise with various stakeholders in relation to obtaining planning approvals.

Position Specification
• Manage a portfolio of sites with full responsibility for ensuring that planning applications and appeals are successful
• Have a thorough understanding of Town & Country Planning legislation, relevant sections of the Telecommunications Act including:
• NPPF/SPP/NPF3; T&CP (E) (GPD) (A) (No.2) Order 2013, Part 24/T&CP (S) (GPD) (A) Order 2014 Part 20, Class 67; Code of Best Practice/PAN 62/TAN19
• Telecommunications Act (1984)/Electronic Communications Code (2003)
• relevant planning legislation such as Town and Country Planning Act
• Work closely with Project Managers, Surveyors, Designers & other key stakeholders
• Provide high-quality, professional planning advice to both internal and external stakeholders
• Be effective at making suggestions for improvements to existing work flows/practices that add value to our processes and client satisfaction
• Timely & accurate recording of information on internal and client databases
• Understand, promote and comply with QA, Health, Safety and Environmental Policies and Procedures
• Assume full responsibility for ensuring that all planning applications are submitted correctly and successfully progressed through the planning system within agreed timeframes
• Select suitable candidate sites to present to client for consideration resulting in a high acceptance rate
• Ensure a high level of precision & accuracy when forecasting submission dates / decision dates resulting in sites being delivered to forecast
• Co-ordinate with internal/external resources to ensure planning submissions are within the timescale and parameters dictated by clients Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Person Specifications
• Degree qualified in Town Planning or a related discipline
• Membership of the RTPI or progressing application highly desirable
• Both private & public sector town planning experience desirable
• Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in the same (or similar) role preferred
• Excellent communication skills – both verbal & written
• Ability to handle heavy workload & competing priorities
• Effective negotiation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships with all relevant stakeholders
• Flexible & professional approach to work and be a team player
• A critical eye for detail and accuracy, and the ability to follow issues through to a satisfactory conclusion
• Strong analytical skills
• Strong commercial awareness and business acumen
• Self-motivated, confident & organised
• Sound IT skills including Microsoft Office, particularly in Excel
• Have a full driving licence and be able to attend site visits, client meetings and planning meetings as required including overnight stays, occasional long journeys and evening planning committee meetings when workload dictates.
