Three UK has launched the nation’s first urban Open RAN deployment in Glasgow, installing over 50 small cells on existing street infrastructure like CCTV poles and lampposts. The project is supported by a £9.1 million grant from the UK’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, reflecting a broader ambition to have 35% of UK mobile traffic running over open and interoperable RAN architectures by 2030.This shift towards Open RAN technology has significant implications for telecoms recruitment.
