Role Overview
The Project Manager (PM) is accountable for overseeing and delivering a range of engineering projects as directed by the Programme Manager. This role requires a structured and consistent approach to project management, underpinned by a solid knowledge of military and maritime engineering practices. It involves direct engagement with customers and carries an element of business development responsibility. The PM plays a key role in maintaining momentum, focus, and team commitment, ensuring project objectives are met in line with agreed timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
The Project Manager will:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute projects, closely monitoring progress, addressing challenges, and implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Apply robust controls for time, cost, and quality throughout each project, ensuring internal alignment with company strategy and external compliance with client expectations and regulatory standards.
  • Lead and coordinate the activities of Integrated Project Teams, ensuring effective collaboration and delivery.
  • Ensure projects are adequately resourced, with the right skills available at the right time.
  • Manage communications with both internal stakeholders and external partners/customers.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage risks and issues that may affect successful delivery.
  • Highlight and address resource shortfalls through training, development, or recruitment requests.
  • Provide regular, structured progress reports to the Programme Manager.
  • Actively seek and develop new business opportunities that align with organisational growth.

Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong leadership, management, interpersonal, and communication abilities, preferably supported by a recognised professional accreditation.
  • The capability to inspire respect and foster a collaborative, motivated project team culture.
  • In-depth knowledge of military and maritime engineering standards.
  • Practical experience in project planning, monitoring, and control methods.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to produce comprehensive project documentation.
  • Familiarity with recognised project and programme management methodologies such as MSP, PRINCE2, APM, Change Management, and MoR.
  • Proven financial management experience, including budget oversight, ideally with knowledge of the SAGE system.
