Production Manager – Bedford – Up to £55,000
The Production Manager plays a critical role in meeting production targets by strategically planning operations, leading teams effectively, and fostering cross-departmental collaboration. This position works closely with Planning, Auto Assembly, and other key areas to maintain smooth production flow, ensure clear communication, and drive team performance in alignment with the organization’s core values and long-term vision.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Team Leadership & Development
- Identify team strengths and development areas using performance data and training needs analysis.
- Support the creation of a flexible, skilled, and high-performing team aligned with business objectives.
- Develop and maintain succession strategies for future leaders and technical talent.
- Foster a workplace culture centred on accountability, learning, and engagement.
- Address performance challenges constructively through structured processes.
- Encourage honest communication, positive reinforcement, and constructive feedback.
Production Planning & Execution
- Manage production flow by interpreting and adjusting the schedule using IFS (ERP) to meet customer needs.
- Maintain close coordination with Planning and Assembly teams to ensure alignment across functions.
- Plan workloads with a focus on immediate, mid-range, and long-term requirements.
Communication & Cross-Functional Alignment
- Build collaborative relationships across departments to reduce siloed working.
- Ensure timely and clear communication of issues, exceptions, and results.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Help define and refine KPIs that align with business strategy and drive positive behaviours.
- Uphold 5S standards through regular audits and continuous area improvement.
- Ensure health and safety practices are followed, including timely reporting of incidents and near misses.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a production or manufacturing setting.
- Strong understanding of lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Effective communicator with the ability to engage across all organizational levels.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards in quality, compliance, and safety.
- Collaborative approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
